The threshold of a building is an important moment in shaping our experience of what is to follow.
You step from an open air environment – a landscape, to an enclosed internal environment – a walled in space,
A covered partially enclosed moment as you you notice this change.
At both ends of the house, large galvanized fins are being placed over the front and rear thresholds as canopies….protection from the sun, and protection from the rain – they signify this moment of environmental change.
Slots were set into the concrete walls at the forming stage. These now need to be drilled to set in the fin. A slope to this fin has to be just right, so that water doesn’t pool against the house. Leveling by crane and wedging, then welding solid to the interior of the concrete wall.
Get this right before the rainy season comes!
