Why Measured?
I feel that Measured respects the importance of collaboration, and in my past life as a carpenter, collaboration was a wonderful key to solving all challenges. I also like the homes they have designed.
Path to architecture
A long and winding path that began straight after high school
Earliest architectural memory
Building castles in the sand
I’m drawn to design because
It can make a difference far beyond its intended purpose
Favourite space
The sounds, the smells and the constant movement at the edge where ocean meets land
Projects I’m proud of
An entire 600 sqft house that I built with my colleagues. Concrete formwork, framing, interior and exterior finishing, millwork, cabinetry and roofing (something I never want to do ever again). The Client loves it, which is the highest compliment.
A space that has affected me
The feeling you get when you are surrounded by nothing but wild empty remoteness
I’m inspired by
Sebastiao Salgado and George Nakashima
When I’m not working, you can find me
On a bike, on a surfboard, on my tele skis, in the workshop or on the couch
Ball point or felt tip?
Pencil, I want to use felt tip, but it just never seems to happen
Go-to unit of measurement
Metric anything. Feet and inches drive me crazy, and don’t get me started on decimal feet and inches.
Favourite object
A beautifully designed, fold out pair of stainless-steel tweezers for pulling splinters. It lives on my keyring.
